When is the best time to visit?

How can I reach Coorg?

Coorg is most accessible by road. While you can easily drive in from nearby cities like Bangalore, Mangalore and Mysore, you definitely must visit from other locations too!

  • By road - Roughly 260km from Bangalore, expect a 5-6 hour road trip to reach Coorg. You can also drive down from Mangalore (which is about 150km away), or from Mysore (approximately 120km away).

  • By air - If you’re staying further away, there are flights from all major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai & Hyderabad to Kannur, which is the nearest airport to Coorg. A 2 hour drive later, you can hit the bed in your resort/hotel/homestay before you officially start vacationing!

There’s no shortage of waterfalls, greenery, historic or religious sights in and around Coorg! Here are some of the many places to visit.

  • ABBEY FALLS

Located roughly 10km from Madikeri, Abbey Falls is the most beautiful waterfall in Coorg, and a must-visit on your getaway. Take a quick walk downhill to reach the waterfall base, and you have the perfect backdrop for your holiday postcard!

  • MADIKERI FORT

Undoubtedly the most popular landmark of Coorg, Madikeri Fort is a must-see for all you history buffs! This fort has lived through THREE different dynasties, was built in the 17th century and is stunning to boot!

  • NAGARAHOLE NATIONAL PARK

Karnataka’s second largest national park is located less than 100km from Madikeri, and is a wonderful day trip for every wildlife enthusiast! Nagarahole is home to exotic animals like leopards, deer, monkeys and over 270 species of birds (including hornbills and ibis)!

  • GOLDEN TEMPLE (not that one!)

Did you know Coorg boasts a variety of rich cultures? Bylakuppe, which is located around 35km from Madikeri is a hub for Tibetans, and houses one of the most-visited Buddhist monasteries in India! The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, also called Golden Temple, is home to over 3000 monks who have peacefully settled here. Do check out the traditional handicrafts stores on your visit!


Things to do

While Coorg has its fair share of history and culture, it is also a haven for all you adventure junkies! Pack your hiking boots, a jacket, insect repellant and comfortable clothes for some well-deserved nature time.


Trekking

If you’re looking for trekking spots in Coorg, do check out the very gorgeous Brahmagiri Peak, with its streams, greenery and lush landscapes! For more serious hikers, the Tadiandamol Peak (around 32km from Madikeri) goes through coffee plantations and stunning viewpoints, and is the third highest peak in Karnataka.


River rafting

Experience a wild ride when rafting on the currents and rapids of the Barapole River. The Cauvery River is another great option, and you can even camp by the riverside after a tiring day of rafting!


Night safari
